Gillian has directed both live theatre and film, having worked on educational and community theatre projects as well as independent short form video projects for many years. Watch her production reel here.
Gillian’s history as a director extends back to 1995, when she directed an
award-winning one-act performance piece in College Station, Texas. Given that success, she returned to her hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she went on to produce, choreograph, and direct three large-scale musicals which played to sold-out crowds. All three projects brought together artists of all ages and levels of experience, which Gillian lovingly guided towards a professional finished product.
While doing her undergrad, Gillian was involved in fifteen theatre productions in various capacities – as an actor, director, makeup designer, costumer, stage-manager, sound designer, and technical crew member. Gillian also directed and co-directed several multi-camera live-to-tape video productions of stage plays while in university.
Gillian participated as an assistant director for the one-act piece called I Eat Therefore I Am for the Walking Fish Festival, in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2005. Following this, Gillian guided an exceptional cast of actors in Vancouver, British Columbia to present the sold-out Less Ado About Nothing, an abridged adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in 2006.
As a film director, Gillian’s most recent project was Like Sand in 2007, a short film about a woman dealing with the loss of a loved one. Along with many independent credits as Unit Production Manager, Director, and Producer, Gillian’s professional credits as a 1st AD include award-winning short films The Hitchhiker and Ducks, several documentaries including Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, and most recently, a pilot presentation for television called Burn on which she worked with Tandem Arts. After taking a few years off to cultivate her writing skills and produce a feature film, Gillian is back in the directing chair and is currently working on a short film with her husband Ryan, who is producing.
